The Lakeville South Cougars played the Chaska Hawks much tougher the
second time around on Monday, but still lost by a score of 6-0 as
they played a night game at Elko Field.
The game was much
closer than the score appears. The Cougars were down by only three
heading into the top of the 7th, but couldn't contain a late Chaska
rally that put another three runs on the board.
The biggest loss
of the night could come in the form of junior pitcher Donnie
Sullivan who injured his arm in the 5th inning. Sullivan pitched to
the first two batters of the inning and had a 1-1 count on the third
when suddenly he felt pain in his throwing elbow.
"I felt a pop and
that was it," said Sullivan, who left the field afterwards with his
right arm wrapped in ice.
He tried to throw
another warm-up pitch from the mound with the umpires close at hand,
but winced in pain as he threw just one pitch. He left the field
unable to continue pitching and will seek a medical evaluation on
his arm.
Before leaving
the game Sullivan had scattered five hits over 5 1/3rd innings and
struck out four. He also collected 5 fly-outs with 3 ground-outs and
walked none during his appearance.
The Hawks out-hit
the Cougars 9 hits to 4.
Leading hitters for the
Cougars were...
Alex Messick... 2 for 3
Eric Watts... 1 for 3
Nick Altavilla... 1 for
3
The Cougars are now 5-11
on the season and travel next to Northfield on Tuesday night (5/16).
The game is scheduled for 4:15 at the Northfield High School field.
The Cougars will play
the recently scheduled game to make-up for the twice rain-cancelled
New Ulm contest which will not be made up.
