2-Run Homer Ties Game 1 In 7th; Watts RBI Single Wins It
The Lakeville South
Cougars played their first ever doubleheader in the school's short
history and came away with their first series sweep as well. The twin-bill was the result of a rain
delay make-up game
being tacked onto Wednesday's already scheduled game.
The first game played
in the doubleheader started in the bottom of the 2nd inning, where
it picked up from the April 6th rain
delayed game.
Marlon Amaro drove in the first run in the 4th
inning as Nick Altavila scored to make it 1-0 Cougars.
South added a run in
the 5th as Alex Messick drove in Jose Martinez with a single up the
middle to make it 2-0 South.
Eastview took a 3-1
lead in the bottom of the 5th and later added a run in the 6th to
make it 4-1.
In the top of the 7th
inning the Cougar bats came
alive for their second comeback win in as many weeks, but they did
it the hard way. The Cougars started their comeback rally with
two-outs.
Jose Martinez walked on a 3-1 count and then Nick Daniels
came to the plate and launched the game tying home run on an 0-1
pitch that he deposited over the left field fence. Alex Messick came
to the plate and singled to right-center. He then moved to 2nd on a
wild pitch to the backstop. Nick Altavila moved him to third on a
shallow hit that dropped into left-field. With runners at 1st and
3rd, Eric Watts then came to the plate and lined a single over the
3rd baseman's head that drove in Alex Messick for the game winning run.
Donnie Sullivan pitched
well the entire game, striking out four while scattering four hits
over 7 innings. He also collected 4 fly-outs, 5 ground-outs, and 1
pop-up. Sullivan set down the Lightning 1-2-3 in the 7th to
get the win for the Cougars.
The Cougars out-hit the
Lightning 9 hits to 4.
Leading Cougar hitters for the
game were...
Nick Daniels... 2
for 3, single and two-run homer, 2 RBIs.

The South Cougars made
it a twin-killing with a doubleheader sweep of the Eastview
Lightning on Wednesday afternoon, after a 6-3 win.
Alex Messick had a
solid game as he started on the mound for the Cougars and tossed his
best game of the year, striking out two while giving up just two hits over 4 2/3rds innings to
get the win. Messick also helped himself at the plate by going 2 for
3 with a double and an RBI single.
In the 1st inning,
Messick doubled and was later driven in on an RBI single from Nick
Altavila.
Eric Watts led off the
2nd by beating out a grounder to the shortstop. Donnie
Sullivan then flew out to center and Mick Wald was hit by a pitch.
Joey Novak walked to load the bases before Jose Martinez ripped a
shot to deep left field, scoring Watts and Wald both.
In the 4th Inning
Martinez was busy again, driving a single past the first baseman
into right field. Nick Daniels then came up and slapped a single
between 3rd and short. Alex Messick hit a shot into the right
field corner to drive in Martinez and put Daniels in scoring
position at 3rd. Nick Altavila drove the next pitch into center
field for the second out, but it was deep enough for the sacrifice
and for Daniels to tag
and score on.
Mick Wald closed the
Cougar scoring by hitting a solo home run over the left field fence in the 5th inning.
The Cougars out-hit the
Lightning 12 hits to 6.
Leading hitters for the
Cougars were...
