ROSEMOUNT COMES FROM BEHIND TO CLIP COUGARS 4

Rain Soaked Game
Called After 5th Inning Irish RallyThe Lakeville South
varsity baseball team saw a 1-0 lead erased in the 5th
inning by a four run Rosemount rally. As soon as the Irish scored
their fourth run the umpires halted the game due to steady rain.
After a twenty minute rain-delay the game was called and made
official with only one out on the board for Rosemount in the bottom
of the 5th.
Nick Daniels pitched
well for the Cougars, giving up only two hits through the first four
innings and inducing nine groundouts during the span. Daniels made
effective use of the plate as he pitched inside and outside in
keeping the Irish off balance through four innings.
In the 5th inning the
rain came much harder. The Irish tied the game 1-1 with a runner on
3rd and a 1 out single up the middle. Daniels then got the lead-off
hitter to ground back to him in what looked like an inning ending
double-play, but his throw to 2nd base sailed wide left of shortstop
Jose Martinez who was covering on the play. The Irish scored one to
go ahead on the play. With two on, the number two batter fought off
an inside pitch and pulled it down the left-field line for a two run
double.
With the rain still
coming down steady, the umpires called the game with only one out in
the bottom of the 5th.
Leading Cougar hitters for the
game were...
Jose Martinez... 2 for
3 and also scored a run.
Mick Wald... 1 for 1,
plus a walk and an RBI.
Alex Messick... 1 for 2
with a double.
The Cougars are now 2 -
7
on the season and are at home next as they host Eastview on
Wednesday (5/3). The game will be part of an afternon double-header
as the two teams also make up their rain shortened first game of the
year.
