SOPHOMORE COUGARS DROP OPENER 9-5 TO NORTH
 Monday, April 9th, 2007

The Cougar sophomores played hard, but defense killed the season opener as they dropped a 9-5 contest to Lakeville North.

Despite the score, the Cougars pitched very well, giving up only one earned run in the game.

"Our lack of defense was the real story. We couldn't back up our pitching, who pitched well," according to sophomore head coach Bryant Rogness.

On the other side of the ball, coach Rogness said, "Offensively we had some bright spots."

Leading the way for the Cougars were...

Nick Continenza helped his pitching effort by going 2 for 2 at the plate, driving in 3 RBIs to lead the Cougars.

Lee Frandrup was 2-3, including a double with 1 RBI. He also scored 2 runs.

Andy St. Martin was 2 for 2 and scored 2 Runs.

Coach Rogness summed the opening game up this way, "I am really excited about the way we hit the ball today. We had three players today with two hits apiece and, for the most part, took good at bats. Our pitching was solid, both Nick Continenza and Hunter Ruth mixed their pitches well and kept the opposition off balance. We need to work on our team defense, but that will come. I'm very excited about our potential!"

The Cougars are 0-1 with their next game against Apple Valley. That game is now in question due to the weather.
